A
Mixture of Jazz and Classical Music: James Miltenberger (USA)
A professor of piano at West Virginia University, Miltenberger has performed
with orchestras at Carnegie Hall and with the Pittsburgh Symphony. He composes
and arranges for several WVU ensembles and plays with the Miltenberger
Jazz Quartet. |

Other Worlds: Sue-Jean Lee (South Korea), Bárbara Dória
(Portugal) Lee, a graduate student at the Peabody Conservatory, has received
scholarships, various distinctions and an assistantship in recognition
of her musical talent. Rapidly becoming one of the leading young Portuguese
pianists, Dória received First Prize in national piano competitions
in Portugal before coming to the U.S. She has earned diplomas and a master’s
degree in piano from Indiana University-Bloomington. |
9/14 – 7:30 p.m.
- Broadway Tunes: *Joseph Lowe (USA)
Lowe is a musical fixture on the Key West, Fla., scene,
offering free Music in Paradise concerts on weekdays, Sunday organ recitals
at 4 p.m. and pop tunes at Square One Restaurant on weeknights. He serves
as organist and choir director at St. Paul’s Church. |
9/15 – 2 p.m. - Mostly
American: Lura Johnson (USA), Karen Sams (USA)
Jonsson is an active recitalist who has appeared throughout
the U.S. and Europe, including Carnegie Hall, the State Department and
D.C.’s Phillips Collection.
Sams is active as a chamber musician and soloist, with
an emphasis on 20th century music. She is on the faculty at Peabody Preparatory
in Baltimore. |
9/21 – 7:30 p.m.
- Classical Selections: Kim Andrews (USA)
Local pianist Andrews serves as staff accompanist at
Frostburg State University and teaches private lessons. She has recorded
a CD of classical works, and has accompanied the Cumberland Choral Society
as well as other ensembles and soloists. |
9/22 – 2 p.m. - Old
and New Legends: Rose Hsin-I Chen (Taiwan), Alejandro Cremaschi (Argentina)
Now a graduate student and teaching assistant at the
Peabody Conservatory, Chen earned her bachelor’s degree from Soo-Chow University
in Taiwan. Cremaschi specializes in the performance of Latin American music
and often serves as an adjudicator. He is an assistant professor of piano
at Ohio University’s School of Music. |
9/28 – 7:30 p.m.
- Across the Seas: Nancy Roldán (Argentina/USA), Gila Goldstein
(Israel/USA)
Baltimore-based pianist Roldán has performed internationally
in the U.S., Europe and the Americas and is president of the Baltimore-Washington
Chapter of the American Lizst Society. She offers workshops on wellness
in performance and music in society. Goldstein has been recognized as a
versatile musician with unique interpretations of classical and contemporary
works. Now living in New York, she is on the faculty of the Choir Academy
of Harlem and has toured extensively in the U.S., Israel and Puerto Rico. |
| 9/29 – 2 p.m. - A Liszt
Gala: Elizabeth Hart (soprano), José Cueto (violin),
Gila Goldstein, Nancy Roldán. Inspired by the great
pianist, Franz Liszt, this gala performance is sponsored by the Baltimore/Washington
Chapter of the American Liszt Society. The American Liszt Society promotes
scholarship on and a general understanding of the full creative and historical
significance of Franz Liszt. Incorporated in 1964, it focuses on both the
composition and performance of music throughout the Western World. |
